Five tips to ensure your video and data loging equipment is ready for 2025 Have you inspected the installation of your video and data logging equipment since the last time your car was out on circuit? Ahead of the start of the new season, here are five tips from JB Data Engineering that will help ensure your data equipment is in the best possible shape for the opening round. 1) Visually check your data and video equipment Check all the wiring and connections to make sure there are no signs of obvious wear and tear, fatigue or damage due to water, heat or contact. Review the complete system; from power source and cabling to camera and sensor installations. 2) Stable power is critical Check to make sure you have a stable power supply. Unstable power can lead to intermittent data loss, noise in the sensor readings, random mid-session system re-boots and corrupted log files. Use a voltage regulator to ensure your system is getting a steady 12V supply, inspect grounding and wiring and, finally, check your alternator and battery health. If data is glitchy, the readings are erratic or you experience unexpected resets, voltage instability is a likely culprit. (Photo: JB Data Engineering) 3) Optimise GPS antenna placement Make sure the placement of your GPS antenna is optimal. Avoid placing it in the car or under metal structures like roll cages. If the roof is carbon fibre, use a ground plane to improve reception. Fit the antenna so that it’s level and facing straight up to properly receive satellite signals. Lastly, use a high-quality, low-loss and short (under 3-metre) cable to minimise signal degradation 4) Don’t over-tighten cable ties If you’re cable-tying your cables to the chassis or roll-cage, make sure there is enough room so that the cables can move slightly under the cable tie. Over-tightened cable ties can result in breakages and data loss. When cabling the camera, it’s important to allow some slack to the cable at the back of camera case. Make sure you don’t overly bend any of the cables as this can cause interference or block signals back to the main unit. 5) Read the Regulations Check the technical regulations for camera placement in the series you’ve entered. Some championships require forward-facing and rear-facing cameras. Other require a camera pointed at the driver and one forward-facing camera. Avoid scrutineering hiccups with a pre-season check of the regulations. Remember: Checks now will save you valuable time at the circuit and ensure your data and video feeds are consistent, accurate and are of high quality We hope these suggestions help you to maximise your test session. JB Data Engineering has extensive experience working with engineers and drivers to create effective test plans. - Get Ready to Test - February 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to the February 2025 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Welcome to the February 2025 newsletter! We are delighted to report that the year has begun on a very positive note for JB Data Engineering with many new enquiries for data support, resulting in a diary that is filling up fast. We hope this means that UK motorsport is in for a bumper season with packed grids and great racing! Due to demand, if you would like to book JB Data Engineering for the 2025 season, we would suggest contacting us as soon as you can to ensure your booking is confirmed. (Autosport International 2025 - Photo: Britcar) We attended Autosport International for the two trade days in early January and it was great to catch up with old friends and make new contacts. Although the show may not have quite re-captured the magic of the early ‘00s, there was plenty to see and, as a place to network and make plans for 2025, it was invaluable. With bookings now being made for the first pre-season test sessions, we’ve included our suggestions in this newsletter to help you optimise your valuable track time. Having attended many test sessions, JB Data Engineering has extensive experience in planning test day programmes so we hope you find our guidance useful in preparing for your first laps of 2025. Please call us on (44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk if you would like to discuss your season and book our services. We’d love to hear from you! Maximise Your Test Day Performance with These Key Tips As drivers and teams gear up for their first test sessions of the new season, preparation is crucial. Given the significant costs in getting a car to the circuit, JB Data Engineering has compiled six key recommendations to help you make your return to the track in 2025 as efficient and productive as possible. 1) Review Past Data and Footage If this is your first session back since last season, check for any onboard video or data you can review in advance. Pay particular attention to your gear selection for each corner to refresh your memory and identify potential improvements. 2) Use a Simulator If you have access to a simulator, spend time reacquainting yourself with the circuit. This will allow you to focus on car performance at the circuit rather than re-learning the track layout. (Photo: JB Data Engineering) 3) Account for Track Changes Many MSV circuits undergo maintenance during the winter, often leading to resurfaced corners or entire sections of track. This means that your braking and throttle reference points may need adjustment, even if your gear selection remains the same. 4) Prepare a Circuit Map Annotate a track map with gear selections before arriving at the circuit. Reviewing the map before heading out on-track will reinforce key points, allowing you to focus on specific corners as you build up speed. If you struggle with a particular section, cross-check your gear selection to ensure optimal performance. 5) Utilise Live Data Feedback At offical Tests Days (not Track Days, where regulations differ), make the most of live data tools. If you’re using VBox equipment, enable the OLED display with live delta or use the live delta function for your chosen dash logger. For AiM devices, use the dash function or Solo 2 to monitor performance before and after each corner. If you’re losing time, highlight that section on your track map when you get back to the garage and focus on improving it throughout the session. Prioritising the biggest and easiest gains will boost your confidence and that will naturally lead to improved lap times. 6) Follow a Structured Test Plan If you’re testing with a professional team, expect a structured plan. A typical day usually starts with an initial shake-down lap followed by four or five timed laps to get you reacquainted with the car. Your engineer will then collect feedback before you complete a race stint of around ten laps, leading to a data review and potential car adjustments. Many teams conduct qualifying runs in the early afternoon when the track is warm and quiet, before concluding with more race stints and a final review of the days results. Remember: Consistency is key! Avoid focusing solely on outright lap times and instead aim for a steady, fast pace throughout your stints. We hope these suggestions help you to maximise your test session. JB Data Engineering has extensive experience working with engineers and drivers to create effective test plans. Welcome to the January 2025 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Welcome to the JB Data Engineering January 2025 newsletter! We hope you all enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christmas break and we wish you a healthy and prosperous 2025 (and, of course, great success on-track!) At JB Data Engineering HQ, we’ve been hard at work preparing for the forthcoming season and the team can’t wait to be back at a circuit in preparation for what promises to be a fantastic year of motorsport. The traditional start to the year for JBDE is our annual visit to the Birmingham NEC for Autosport International (ASI) 2025. For our international subscribers, ASI is a four-day motorsport event held at one of the largest exhibition spaces in the UK and includes a two-day trade show for industry professionals and a two-day public show. ASI is a magnet for thousands of fans, automotive enthusiasts and fellow professionals in the industry and offers businesses like ours the perfect opportunity to network and present our services. We will be at the show on Thursday and Friday (January the 9th and 10th) and would love to meet with you to discuss how we can support your racing ambitions in 2025. Please call us on (44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to arrange a time when we can get together. We very much look forward to meeting old friends and new at the Birmingham NEC next week to launch the new motorsport season in style! Preparing for the New Season Are you planning your car preparations for the new season? Do you have your first test sessions planned and in the diary? With video and data playing an increasingly important role, even in club motorsport, making sure you have the correct tools to go racing is essential to on-track success. Here are five tips from JB Data Engineering to ensure your data and video equipment is ready for 2025. 1) Review any issues and niggles from last season and resolve them Was a sensor playing up? Were there any problems with data acquisition that caused problems in 2024? Is everything working as it should? If not, get those niggles and problems resolved before you head out to a track for testing. JB Data Engineering can assist with advice, repairs, recalibration and re-sets across a wide range of equipment and manufacturers. 2) Get your data and video equipment serviced where possible Accidents may have dislodged components and internal wiring while oil, water and dirt inside the unit can all cause loose connections and problems. Just as you would service your road car annually, the same logic applies to your on-board data and video equipment. Contact JB Data Engineering to discuss how we can help or contact the manufacturer who will be able to arrange a service. 3) Update your firmware Manufacturers regularly publish firmware updates and during a busy season, it’s easy to miss them. We can guide you if you need assistance or a visit to the manufacturer’s website should give you the information you need. 4) Thinking of investing in a video and data acquisition system for the first time? Before you click on the ‘Buy Now’ button and potentially make an expensive mistake, contact JB Data Engineering. We have ten years experience in advising clients on systems and set-up and we can help you make sure that what you’re buying is going to deliver what you need. If it doesn’t, we can provide alternative solutions. 5) Were there any areas in your driving last season that you’d like to improve on? A call to JB Data Engineering could assist in deciding what data you need to be reviewing to make you quicker. Trouble getting the brakes up to temperature? How about fitting a brake sensor to review how you’re braking. If you’re not sure when to get on the throttle, a throttle position sensor overlaying data on a video could be the answer. JB Data Engineering can supply and install equipment from the world’s leading motorsport data acquisition suppliers as well as train you to get the best out of your investment. If you’re attending Autosport International this weekend, we look forward to seeing you there. If you’re making plans for your first test session of 2025, we hope our paths cross in the paddock soon. Our diary is filling up fast for 2025 so please call us on (44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk so that we can discuss how we can support you to achieve your racing goals this year. Best Wishes, Jordan Have a great January! The JB Data Engineering Team.
- Another Action-Packed Year of Motorsport!
2024 Season Review Hello and welcome to the JB Data Engineering 2024 end-of-season review! This year has flown past and we can’t believe that we’re already deep into planning for 2025. 2024 has, as ever, been busy and demanding and we are very grateful to everyone who has employed our services or bought products from us in 2024. When we started the company back in 2016, we had no idea that, nearly nine years later, JB Data Engineering would have worked with clients across the globe and be supplying products from the world’s leading data gathering and motorsport electronics companys. We hope you enjoy this brief summary of 2024 and if we can help with your planning for next season with either support during testing or with systems from our range of leading suppliers, please call us on 00(44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk . We’d be delighted to help. British GT (The #44 car in the hands of Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan - Photo: British GT) The opportunity to work with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK (Speedworks Motorsport) resulted from a request to provide some systems support. What started out as a day in the Speedworks HQ turned into an offer to join the team for the season to work with Team Manager Danny Buxton and Race Engineer Geoff Kingston in support of the team’s #44 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo driven by Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan. Over a season which saw both successes and challenges, the relationship between Race Engineer and Data Engineer grew to one of the utmost trust and respect and demonstrated how effective it is when those roles work closely together. Decisions on strategy calls and set-up direction require clear communication and sound decision-making, disciplines that paid huge dividends for the team as the season progressed. This was never more prevalent than at Donington early in the year where we took the decision to bring the #44 car in for a pit stop just ahead of the safety car being called out. This well-timed call effectively gave the team a free pit stop and allowed us to lead the GT4 class before a pit lane infringement resulted in a penalty. (The #44 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra at Brands Hatch - Photo: British GT) The final round saw a change of drivers with Michael O’Brien and Benjamin Tusting taking over the driving duties for Brands Hatch. The car sported a new matt camo wrap for the final weekend in support of the British Army Motorsport Association. Formed in 1960, the Association provides members with an opportunity to participate in motorsport in the form of competitive events. Unfortunately a stone through the radiator during the race meant that O’Brien and Tusting were unable to show the full potential of the Toyota GR Supra but they did set the fastest GT4PA lap time so the pace was there even if luck was not on our side. The British GT Championship is regarded by many as the most competitive domestic GT championship in the world and it was an honour and a pleasure to compete in the 2024 season with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK.a Fun Cup Endurance Championship Photo: JB Data Engineering) One of the highlights of 2024 was our support of Morpheus Motorsport throughout the Fun Cup Endurance Championship. Fun Cup has grown in popularity over the last few seasons and by the final weekend in October, the grid had grown to 28 cars with teams already signing up for 2025. Morpheus Motorsport began the season with a three-car entry which included the #195 car driven by Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury, the #101 Axiametrics-backed entry with Christopher Weatherill, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans and the #157GMR/Eco entry with rising star Gracie Mitchell and Rob Croydon behind the wheel. By the end of the season, the team had grown to five cars, ensuring that everyone within Morpheus Motorsport had to be on the top of their game to ensure the cars were well-prepared and that the drivers were getting the correct support from the Race and Data Engineers. (JB Data Engineering in conversation with Morpheus Motorsport team members - Photo: Fun Cup Endurance Championship) For JB Data Engineering, the Fun Cup season demonstrated that focus and excellent time management meant that you can still provide effective support to a large number of drivers by highlighting the points where the most time can be gained, rather than concentrating on every last tenth of a second. The season also demonstrated the value of data, allowing decisions to be made with precise information rather than opinion. (The #195 car of Neil Burrougs and Ted Bradbury - Photo: Fun Cup Endurance Championship) The season had its share of highs and lows but outright wins for the #195 car, top ten finishes for the #103 car and seeing the progression of all the drivers as the season developed meant that the value of data analysis and feedback was proved time and time again. Morpheus Motorsport’s Gracie Mitchell was awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ at the recent Fun Cup awards evening so her progress has not gone unnoticed. British Endurance Championship / Britcar Trophy Championship 2024 marked the third year that JB Data Engineering has provided data scrutineering to the British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy. It will also be the last year that the series’ are run to the current regulations as big changes have been announced. JB Data Engineering would like to extend a huge debt of gratitude to Claire Hedley and David Hornsey for inviting us to be part of the BEC journey since 2022. We would also like to thank all he teams who competed in the two series and who made the lives of the Data Scrutineering team immeasurably easier as the seasons have progressed. Initially there was the inevitable push-back when the data scrutineers made requests to the teams but by the end of the 2024 season, a professional, respectful relationship between the teams and scrutineers had been established to, we hope, everyone’s benefit. (Photo: James Roberts Photography for Britcar Trophy Championship) With tight timetables and a lot of racing packed into one-day meetings, the season presented its challenges but it proves again that with good time management and a supportive team environment, objectives can be achieved even under demanding circumstances. We wish the British Endurance Championship the very best of luck as it embarks on its new era in 2025 and we hope we can be part of the team again when racing resumes at Silverstone next April. GT Cup / TCR UK / Mini Miglia Challenge (Jeff Smith celebrating winning the 2024 Mini Miglia title at Silverstone - Photo: Mini Miglia Challenge) JB Data Engineering supported teams across a number of championships and series in 2024 and we were delighted to be asked to support Morpheus Motorsport when it entered the first two weekends of the GT Cup Championship. For the opening weekend at Donington, the team’s two-car entry comprised Stephen Walton and Chris Hart piloting the #69 Mercedes-AMG GT4 and Jon Currie and Phil Keen sharing thedriving duties in the #69 car. The #69 crew left Brands Hatch 5th in the GTH standings with Jon and Phil two places behind. Marcus Clutton replaced Phil Keen for the Brands Hatch weekend which saw another packed programme that resulted in two 4ths, a 5th and an 8th-place finish for the #69 car and a podium, two 4ths and a 7th-place finish for the #96 crew.a (Jo Polley’s #306 Mini at Brands Hatch) We supported teams in the TCR UK paddock and were delighted to help Matt Wilson and Brad Hutchison. It was great to see our friends at EDF Motorsports winning the Gen 1 Cup on its first running. Finally, JB Data Engineering joined Pyro Motorsport and drivers Jeff Smith and Jo Polley for the Brands Hatch Mini Festival and the Mini Miglia Challenge at Silverstone. Jeff secured the Mini Miglia title at Silverstone and Jo Polley drove to a 12th-place finish from the rear of the grid in Race Two, a fantastic result given the size of the field. With both cars running the VBOX HD2 video data logging system, we were able to analyse on-track performance efficiently and both drivers benefited from quick, accurate feedback. JB Data Engineering has thoroughly enjoyed supporting Jo and Jeff in 2024 and we hope we can return to the Mini Miglia paddock in 2025. CARTEK Motorsport Electronics JB Data Engineering was proud to introduce the CartekMotorsport Electronics range into our shop in October. - Mini Miglias and Fun Cup November 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to the November 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. The JB Data Engineering team wrapped up our busy 2024 season with two superb outings in October. Firstly we supported Pyro Motorsport at Silverstone where Jeff Smith and Jo Polley were competing in the final two rounds of the Dunlop Mini 7 Racing Club Championship Mini Miglias. To close the month, we travelled to Oulton Park with Morpheus Motorsport to provide data engineering support to their five-car entry in the final weekend of the 2024 Fun Cup Endurance Championship. Both weekends saw some fantastic results along with the inevitable challenges but what would motorsport be without its ups and downs? With the domestic season now behind us, our thoughts are firmly fixed on the Gulf region and Asia with the prospect of packed grids and close racing in the Asian Le Mans Series, the Gulf 12 Hours and the Michelin 24H Dubai. JB Data Engineering currently has the resource to provide data analysis and engineering support for selected dates across all of those events, both on a remote and track-side basis. If we can help, please call us on 0044 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk . If you’re planning a new car build in preparation for next season, check out the recently revised VBOX Pit Lane Timer. Packed with essential features, the Pit Lane Timer is now a vital piece of equipment for races where optimising pit stop time is critical. Read all about the new VBOX Pit Lane Timer below. Dunlop Mini 7 - Mini Miglia Challenge (Photo: Mini Miglia Challenge) JB Data Engineering was delighted to rejoin Pyro Motorsport for the final weekend of the Mini Miglia Challenge, held on the Silverstone International Circuit. Jo Polley in the #76 car and Jeff Smith in the #46 entry had a busy weekend with not only practice and qualifying but also three 20-minute races due to a carry-over race from Cadwell Park. Jo Polley was unlucky as mechanical gremlins meant that some testing was missed on Friday. Jo qualified the #76 car in the 17th but bad luck was to strike again as contact with debris on the circuit caused sufficient damage to result in a DNF. For Race Two, Jo was starting from the rear of the grid but drove through to a 12th place finish, a fantastic result given the size of the field. Jeff Smith qualified the #46 car on pole on his final tour, lapping the 1.85 miles of the International circuit in 1:231.464 and went on to finish 3rd in Race One, securing the Mini Miglia title in the process. Race Two saw the #46 car finish second, wrapping up a highly successful weekend and season for Jeff Smith and Pyro Motorsport. With both cars running the VBOX HD2 video data logging system, we were able to analyse on -track performance efficiently and both drivers benefited from quick, accurate feedback. JB Data Engineering has thoroughly enjoyed supporting Jo Polley and Jeff Smith in 2024 and we hope we can return to the Mini Miglia paddock in 2025. Fun Cup Endurance Championship (Photo: JB Data Engineering) The final weekend of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship was a busy one for JB Data Engineering. With Morpheus Motorsport running five cars for rounds 9 & 10 and a huge range of experience in Fun Cup machinery across the driver line-ups, it was always going to be a race meeting that demanded the best of every team member. Fun Cup racing has continued to grow in popularity and the grid of 28 cars was one of the biggest of the season. JPR Motorsport, the series organiser, announced that new teams have already signed for the 2025 season so, during a challenging economic environment for many teams, it’s great to see this popular form of endurance racing continuing to grow JB Data Engineering in conversation with Morpheus Motorsport team members. (Photo: Fun Cup Endurance Championship)) Joining Morpheus Motorsport in the #110 car alongside team owner Chris Hart’s son Charlie, was 2024 BTCC Champion Jake Hill, making his Fun Cup debut. The #110 car qualified on pole position and went to enjoy a very successful weekend with two 2nd place finishes and winning a cash prize for Fun Cup novices podium finishers. Gracie Mitchell was back with Morpheus for the Oulton Park rounds and was joined in the #157 GMR/Eco entry by Will Antrobus who has moved up from karts this season. The #157 car qualified 13th overall and finished 13th and 17th overall in the two races. With five cars and a busy timetable, having access to accurate data is vitally important for a team. Data and video enables drivers and engineers to quickly pinpoint areas where time can be made up and implement plans to optimise both car and pilot. Although pit stop times are not mandated in Fun Cup Racing, getting the car in and back out safely and in the quickest possible time is vital to on-track success in a series where winning margins can be measured in seconds. The 2024 Fun Cup Endurance Championship season with Morpheus Motorsport has been hugely enjoyable and we very much hope we can rejoin the team for its 2025 campaign. Product Focus: VBOX Pit Lane Timer VBOX has recently released its latest evolution of the Pit Lane Timer. This product needs very little introduction as it’s fast becoming a ‘must have’ for teams competing in series that have mandated minimum pit stoptimes. The new VBOX RLVBPIT-R is slimmer, with a depth of just 15mm, and has additional LEDs for communicating to the driver and pit crew. AJ Peterson, Team Manager of Lone Star Racing who took GTD pole at Motul Petit Le Mans last month, summed up why the VBOX Pit Lane Timer is vital to the success of the team. “With modern BoP racing, it’s a battle of who makes the least amount of mistakes. “So as long as we have a tool to minimise our mistakes in the pitlane, that’s money well spent.” Click on the link below to view the interview with Lone Star Racing’s AJ Peterson. The VBOX Pit Lane Timer takes the guesswork out of the crucial pit stop period of a race. It recognises the preset pit lane entry points as its crossed, displays the speed until the car comes to a stop and then counts down to zero to indicate when it is time to get out again. The high brightness LEDs change colour and intensity, giving the driver an indication of whether the pit lane exit will be reached too early, late or at the right time. Data is logged to its SD card at 25 times per second. For VBOX Pit Lane Timer orders received before 12:00 on the 30th of November, JB Data Engineering will provide a FREE half hour phone consultation to advise you on correct fitment and usage. Looking ahead for 2025! As 2024 starts to wind down, the motorsport world looks ahead to next season and what promises to be another spectacular year of racing. Sportscar grids in the senior categories across the world are approaching capacity and that enthusiasm can only support and grow grassroots series and domestic racing. The JB Data Engineering team is perfectly positioned to provide you with season-long track-side data acquisition and analysis services, equipment supply and installation from the world’s most highly regarded motorsport electronics companies or test day and on-call telephone support, whenever and wherever you need it. Welcome to the September 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Hello and welcome to the September edition of the JB Data Engineering Newsletter. August was another busy month with JB Data Engineering fulfilling data scrutineering duties with the British Endurance Championship and the ROWE Britcar Trophy, supporting Jeff Smith and Jo Polley at the Mini Festival at Brands Hatch and working with Morpheus Racing in the Fun Cup Endurance Championship. We’ve certainly not been sitting still! Despite a busy few weeks ahead of us, we stll have some dates available if you’re looking to test ahead of the final rounds of many domestic championships so please call us on 07717 562169 or email us at jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to see how we can help you. Mini Festival - Brands Hatch (Photo: Jo Polley) The first weekend of August saw JB Data Engineering providing support to Jeff Smith and Jo Polley at the Mini Festival, held on the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. Polley and Smith had a busy weekend with entries in both the Dunlop Mini Challenge supported by Mini Spares – Miglia class and also the Sanwa Trophy –Pre 66 Minis. Mini racing is always fun and Jeff Smith left Brands Hatch after taking four podiums out of a possible five across the two classes while Jo Polley had a best-placed finish of 12th overall in Race 1 for the Mini Miglias. We hope that we can join Jeff and Jo again in the paddock for what is always great racing on highly competitive grids British Endurance Championship / Britcar Trophy (Photo: British Endurance Championship) The British Endurance Championship and ROWE Britcar Trophy were back at Donington Park for Round 5 of the BEC and JB Data Engineering was delighted to work in our regular role as part of the Data Scrutineering team, ensuring that all the competitors were adhering to the same technical standards and that the playing field was level for the 30 entries across both the championships. In a highly competitive BEC race, Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton in the #9 PB Racing by JMH Audi GT3 took another overall victory but were pushed hard by the #55 JMH Automotive Lamborghini driven by John Seale and Jamie Stanley. Some ambitious driving at the start saw multiple contacts as the grid went into the first corner and the action continued throughout the two-hour contest. After Donington, Erceg and Clutton lead the overall BEC standings on 160 points, 12 points ahead of the #161 Xentec Motorsport Porsche Gt4 piloted by Bal Sidhu and Josh Steed who finished in 4th overall at Donington and 1st in Class D. (#10 Geoff Steel BMW E46 driven by Lee Goldsmith. Photo: Britcar Trophy) The two 50-minute ROWE Britcar Trophy races saw victory in Race 1 go to the #50 Intersport crew of Jasver Sapra and Bryan Bransom followed by Ben Green and Stephen Fresle in the #43 Century and SGM Ginetta G56 GTA entry. The win in Race 2 was taken by Lee Goldsmith in the #10 Geoff Steel Racing BMW M3. Maurice Henry and Hadley Simpson lead the standings in the #88 High Row Motorsport Clio after Donington, just one point ahead of Mark Jones, Rob Ellick and Craig Fleming in the #7 TSR Audi TT. As always, JB Data Engineering was proud to be a part of Claire Hedley’s team at Donington and we are looking forward to rejoining the BEC and Britcar Trophy paddocks at Snetterton in September for the season finale. Fun Cup Endurance (The #157 GMR/Eco Fun Cup entry driven by Gracie Mitchell and Ed and Chris Bridle ) JB Data Engineering provided data analysis support to Morpheus Racing, supporting their three-car entry in Round 7 of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch. Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury returned in the #195 car while the #103 Axiametrics-backed entry saw Christopher Weatherhill, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans sharing the driving duties. In the #157 GMR/Eco entry, Gracie Mitchell, making her fourth Fun Cup appearance, was joined by the Bridle twins,Chris and Edward, both of whom have considerable experience and who were the perfect mentors for their teammate, still in the early years of what promises to be a fantastic racing career. (#195 Morpheus Racing entry driven by Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury. Photo: Fun Cup) Neil Burroughs put the #195 car on pole position and in a competitive four-hour contest, took first place on track before a 30-second time penalty was served on the duo for contact, demoting Burroughs and Bradbury to 3rd. Both the #157 and #103 crews had solid races with the Mitchell and Bridle-crewed entry finishing in 8th, followed by the #103 car in 9th. Weatherhill, Railton and Evans finished 5th in the Masters class while Burroughs and Bradbury got the fastest overall lap time with a 56.583. (#103 Axiametrics-backed entry driven by Christopher Weatherill, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans. Photo: Fun Cup) The #195 Morpheus Racing entry now sits 8th in the overall standings with the #157 and #109 cars 19th and 24th respectively. Racing on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit is always very demanding due to the short lap time and JB Data Engineering had a very enjoyable day. We are looking forward to joining the team when the Fun Cup Endurance Championship visits Ecumaster RF Wireless Steering Wheel The Ecumaster Wireless RF Steering Panel offers significant advantages for racing enthusiasts. - August 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to the August 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Hello and welcome to the JB Data Engineering August newsletter! July was a very busy month for the company as we supported teams and series across the country. The month included two visits to Snetterton which has the advantage, for us, of being our ‘home’ circuit. With the end of the 2024 UK season just a little over two months away in many cases, JB Data Engineering is now looking ahead to next year. If you are planning your 2025 campaigns and would like the support of an experienced and reliable data engineer or are looking to refresh your data gathering and analysis tools, call JB Data Engineering on 00(44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to discuss how we can help. As suppliers of VBOX, AiM, Ecumaster and RaceSense, JB DataEngineering can supply, install and train on a wide range of market-leading data analysis systems to ensure that your solution is the perfect match for your requirements. Visit JBDataengineering.co.uk to review our complete range of products and services. British Endurance Championship / Britcar Trophy (Photo: British Endurance Championship) JB Data Engineering provided data scrutineering services to the British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy Series at the BARC NW Meeting at Oulton park over the first weekend of July. The unpredictable summer weather meant that teams had to cope with mixed conditions with the BEC grid qualifying on a drying track before racing in almost perfect conditions. Victory for Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton in the #9 Audi GT3 meant that the PB Racing by JMH duo left Oulton Park with a lead of 11 points in the overall standings ahead Bal Sidu and Josh Steed in the #151 Xentek Motorsport Porsche GT4. The win in Class G went to the #66 SVG Motorsport Ginetta driven by Callum Pratt-Thompson and JamesTaylor. Pratt-Thompson (pictured below) also won the Outstanding Achievement of the Weekend award and the teenager is clearly on a path for a great career in sportscar racing Competition in the Britcar Trophy Championship was as close as ever with the wet conditions for Race One causing an off-track excursion for the #5 Westbourne Motorsport Clio driven by Mike Bowman, bringing out the safety car after five laps. Datum Motorsport made it a 1 – 2 with Marco Anastasi bringing home the #4 Ginetta ahead of teammate Maurizio Sciglio in the #47 entry. For Race Two the Oulton Park International circuit was dry, making for perfect conditions and some very close racing. Seb Dubois in the #17 Ginetta took the chequered flag just .048 seconds ahead of Rhys Lloyd in the #609 Dragon Sport Astra. Cris Bialan, driving the #23 Gen 1 Cupra, was less than a quarter of a second behind Lloyd for the final podium position. To get that much racing into one day meant that the timetable was necessarily compact and JB Data Engineering, as part of the Data Scrutineering team, would like to thank all the teams for their cooperation. Their help and support throughout the day was a massive help to us all on what was a demanding day of racing. British GT (Photo: British GT) JB Data Engineering returned to the British GT Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK and its #44 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo driven by Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan at Snetterton. For the two one-hour contests, tyre management was less critical than it would have been in the endurance races and in Race One Kavi and Dan brought the #44 car home 9th in the GT4 Pro-Am class. Race Two saw the #44 Toyota sidelined with a technical issue after 18 laps. (Photo: British GT) Unfortunately It was a frustrating weekend for the team and Toyota Gazoo Racing UK left Norfolk 8th in the GT4 Drivers Championship – Pro/Am standings. The team are looking forward to the final two rounds of the 2024 season and are determined to finish the year on a high. JB Data Engineering can’t wait to be back with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK at Donington Park in September. Fun Cup Endurance (Photo: Fun Cup Endurance Championship) The Fun Cup Endurance Championship visited Snetterton in July and JB Data Engineering was there supporting Morpheus Racing and its three-car entry into this hugely popular series which offers endurance racing on a budget. Chris Hart and Stephen Walton piloted the team’s #109 entry while Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury shared the driving duties in the #195 car. Christopher Weatherill, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans completed the line-up in the #103 entry. (Photo: Fun Cup Endurance Championship) After showing good pace in practice, the team had a frustrating race with the #109 car getting a puncture and the #195 entry encountering technical issues. The #103 crew were running in the top six before their engine let them down after 34 laps. Despite the challenges, JB Data Engineering thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and we are looking forward to rejoining the Fun Cup grid at Brands Hatch in August. Racesense Pocket The RaceSense Pocket is the perfect solution if you’re looking for an accurate, lightweight and robust top quality tyre gauge. The RaceSense Pocket tyre gauge is accurate to within +/-0.1psi and can be synced to your smartphone for automatic recording of critical tyre data. For quick pit-stops without the need to write down or remember tyre pressures, the RaceSense Pocket revolutionises how you record tyre data. If you’re taking a well-earned summer break in August, we hope you enjoy a restful and fun-filled vacation. If, on the other hand, you’re racing or testing and are looking for experienced data engineering support, please call JB Data Engineering on 00(44) 7717 562 169 to discuss how we can help you achieving your motorsport goals. We look forward to meeting you in a paddock somewhere over the next few weeks! Best Wishes, Jordan JB Data Engineering Jordan Have a great August! The JB Data Engineering Team.
- July 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to the July 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Hello and welcome to the July edition of the JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Can you believe that the year is now halfway over? we are already looking ahead to 2025 with series calendars being announced and plans being made for another spectacular year of international motorsport. Grids in nearly all international championships are full and with the announcement that the FIA World Endurance Championship calendar is largely unchanged for next year and with the message of stability in calendars and regulations from the series organisers, GT and prototype racing continues to go from strength to strength. JB Data Engineering had another busy month with visits to Silverstone, Oulton Park and Spa-Francorchamps in addition to looking after our global customer base. Speaking of 2025, if you are already looking ahead to next year and planning your racing campaigns, whether domestically or further afield, JB Data Engineering is here to supply all your data and video acquisition equipment needs as well as provide technical support, training and installation services. We also supply trackside data engineering services throughout the UK, Europe, the US and Asia. If you're looking for expert data engineering support in 2025, call us now on 00(44) 7717 562169 or email us at jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk . TCR UK Championship The second weekend of June saw JB Data Engineering supporting Brad Hutchison in the #17 Bond It with MPHRacing Cupra Leon Competición TCR at Rounds 7 & 8 of the TCR UK Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park. Brad Hutchison qualified the #17 Cupra sixth on the 13-car grid and went on to finish third in Race One, less than half a second behind Joe Marshall-Birks in the Rob Boston Audi. Race Two ended prematurely for Brad with broken drive shaft but the team still left Oulton Park fifth in the TCR UK standings and happy with the pace of the #17 Cupra Fun Cup Endurance Championship weekends can be full-on and Croft was no exception with its two races, the first being for one hour followed by a two-hour contest. Everybody in TCR UK racing is very competitive and we always enjoy working with TCR teams in the series paddock. It was disappointing for everyone that we didn't see two race finishes for the #17 Bond It with MPH Racing car but Brad was happy with his overall pace. We look forward to further opportunities to work with Brad Hutchison and Bond It with MPH Racing in the future. British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy JB Data Engineering resumed its data scrutineering role with the British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy Championship weekend at Silverstone on June the 15th and 16th. Grids of 17 for the BEC and 16 for Britcar with their variety of classes meant that the the racing was close and the competition intense. Data scrutineering ensures that, as far as possible, competitors are adhering to regulations and that everyone is competing on a level playing field within their respective classes. In the British Endurance Championship the overall victory went to the #9 PB Racing by JMH Audi GT3 piloted by Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton while the win in Class D for GT4 machinery was taken by Bal Sindhu and Josh Steed in the #116 Xentek Motorsport Porsche GT4. The two 50-minute Britcar races produced wins for the #23 Sim Dynamic Racing with Jabbasport Gen 1 Cupra of Chris Balan and Simon Mason. We are delighted to be part of Claire Hedley's team looking after these two exciting series and we look forward to being back with the British Endurance Championship when it returns in July. British GT Championship JMoving from one iconic circuit to another, JB Data Engineering re-joined Toyota Gazoo Racing UK (Speedworks Motorsport) when it visited Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for Round 5 of the British GT Championship. As is well known to all teams competing at Spa, weather can play a critical role when racing in Belgium and 2024 was no different. GT4 qualifying was cut short when an accident resulted in barrier damage and, as a result, the grid was based on times set in Pre-Qualifying. This meant that the #44 Toyota Supra GT4 Evo driven by Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan started from 13th overall on the overall GT4 grid and 6th in the GT4PA class. An accident involving multiple cars on the run from La Source to Eau Rouge on the first racing lap resulted in barrier damage and a red flag. The series organisers then reduced the race length to a little over 75 minutes. Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan brought the #44 Toyota home in 10th place overall in the GT4 category and 5th in the GT4PA class, leaving Spa 7th in the GT4 Drivers Championship - Pro/Am Cup standings. The British GT Championship next meets at Snetterton for Rounds 6 & 7 and JB Data Engineering looks forward to being part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK in Norfolk. It supports CAN 2.0A and CAN 2.0B standards and is equipped with an LED status diode for fast diagnostic and a 120 Ohm terminator that can be switched on or off to relieve the user from applying external terminators. If you are looking to test in readiness for the remainder of the 2024 season, JB Data Engineering would be delighted to support you. We have a few dates remaining throughout July and August so why don’t you call 00(44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@dataengineering.co.uk to discuss your plans and see how we can help. We are suppliers for Aim, ECUMaster, RACESense and VBOX and can install and train on all their latest data acquisition and video recording systems. Well, that about wraps it up for our July newsletter. The JB Data Engineering team now has a busy few weeks before taking a short break in August in readiness for the conclusion of the UK and European season and preparation for the start of the racing in Asia. Wherever and whatever you are racing in July, have a great month! Best Wishes, Jordan Jordan Have a great July! The JB Data Engineering Team.
- June 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to the June 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Hello and welcome to the June edition of the JB Data Engineering Newsletter! With the UK season now well and truly underway, JB Data Engineering has been providing data and video analysis support to teams competing in the Fun Cup Endurance Championship, the GT Cup Championship and the British GT Championship as well as working on test days and media days. It’s been a busy month! In this newsletter, we’ll be throwing the spotlight on the AiM MyChron5 S 2T, a great piece of kit for karters looking to improve their competitiveness through data and video analysis. Due to a change of plans by one of our clients, a (very) few weekends have opened up. As a result, if we can help with your data engineering requirements at short notice, please call on (44) 7717 562169 or email on jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk. We’d love to work with you! Fun Cup Endurance Championship The month got off to a busy start with Rounds Two and Three of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship at Croft. JB Data Engineering was working with Morpheus Motorsports and its three-car entry of the #157 GMR/Eco Fun Cup driven by Gracie Mitchell and Rob Croydon, the #103 AxiaMetrics entry piloted by Christopher Weatherall, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans and the #195 car driven by Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury. Across the team we had a nice balance of drivers, some still developing their race craft Fun Cup Endurance Championship weekends can be full-on and Croft was no exception with its two races, the first being for one hour followed by a two-hour contest. Everybody in the team worked extremely hard with the result that Gracie and Rob finished in 10th and 13th places overall and the #103 crew took 19th and 8th-place overall finishes. The #195 crew had a very successful weekend with a 2nd in the first race followed by overall victory in the two-hour enduro. Gracie Mitchell is clearly an up-and-coming driving talent with a bright future and with whom we’ve had the pleasure of working with before. After Croft the #157 car lies 8th in the Masters standings and the #103 car 10th in class. Burroughs and Bradbury are second in the overall standings We look forward to hopefully being invited to join Morpheus Motorsports for future rounds of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship. GT Cup Championship It was another busy weekend for the GT Cup Championship on the Brands Hatch GP circuit. Morpheus Racing returned with its two-car line-up of the #69 Mercedes AMG GT4 (GTH class) driven by Stephen Walton and Chris Hart and the sister #96 entry piloted by Jon Currie and Marcus Clutton, the latter stepping in for Phil Keen who had commitments elsewhere. With four races over the two days, the action never stopped and Morpheus Racing left Kent with two 4ths, a 5th and an 8th-place finish in class for Stephen and Chris in the #69 Mercedes and a podium, two 4ths and a 7th-place finish for the #96 car. Balance of Performance was not in our favour for Brands Hatch and racing an older generation GT4 car against the latest Aston Martin Vantage GT4 meant it was always going to be a bit of an uphill struggle but we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and the racing was excellent as always. JB Data Engineering was delighted to provide data support to Morpheus Racing and after two great opening weekends of GT Cup action, we hope to return for more GT Cup competition later in the year. Testing and Media Day JB Data Engineering was asked to support Pyro Motorsport when Jo Polley and ex-BTCC racer Jeff Smith tested their Mini Miglias in May. Although more of a classic formula, the cars were both equipped with sensors, digital dashes and VBox equipment for video analysis so in many ways it was no different to working on a contemporary GT car. It was a very productive day and everybody left having made improvements and gaining a better understanding of the two cars. We were also invited to support the Porsche Sprint Challenge Media Day where we offered technical support. We managed to fix some issues while we were there so it was time well spen and we hope to return to the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB as the season progresses. British GT Championship JB Data Engineering concluded the month of May with a return to Donington Park and a weekend of British GT Championship action working with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK run by Speedworks Motorsport and its #44 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo piloted by Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan. Testing went very well and Jundu and Vaughan qualified the #44 Toyota 10th overall in the GT4 class and 3rd in the GT4PA category. The race was demanding due to the variable weather conditions and a downpour close to the race start meant that on-track action was red-flagged to allow water to drain from the track. Due to the Championship's sporting regulations regarding Full Course Yellows, we had to be careful with pitstop strategies to avoid losing a lap. Our strategy worked well and Javi and Dan brought the #44 car home in 3rd place overall in the GT4 class and 2nd in the GT4PA category. We were delighted with the weekend's results and it goes to show that sensible application of the BoP regulations and a good set of rules make for great racing. - MAY 24 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to the May 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Hello and welcome to the May edition of the JB Data Engineering newsletter. The 2024 season is now well and truly underway and below we’ve highlighted some of the acitivities we’ve been involved with. As you may know, sportscar racing is central to all our activities (although we’re very happy to support single-seater formulae!) and April saw us working within the paddocks of the British Endurance Championship, the Britcar Trophy and the British GT Champioship. In between race weekends, we’ve been supporting clients throughout the UK with new equipment, training and support. Our Product Feature this month is the VBOX Mini Input Module which many of our customers are considering with a view to expanding the capabilities of their VBOX HD2 systems. We have a special ‘support’ deal for purchases of the VBOX Mini Input Module so click on the link below to order yours now. We hope you’ve enjoyed a successful start to your racing in 2024 British Endurance Championship & Britcar Trophy JB Data Engineering returned to its Data Scrutineering role for the opening race of the 2024 British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy at Donington over the Easter weekend. 15 cars, spread across seven classes, were on the grid for the two-hour BEC contest which saw the overall victory go to the #9 PB Racing by JMH Audi R8 GT3 driven by Peter Erceg and Hugo Cook who finished a lap ahead of the #55 JMH Automotive Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of John Seale and Jamie Stanley. The rain that had blighted the UK for much of March largely held off throughout the day but a short shower at the start reminded competitors not to rely on the dry track conditions. Further rain with minutes remaining could have caused problems had it occurred half an hour earlier. As it was, the #9 car took a comfortable win. What makes the BEC such a great series for drivers who are new to sportscar racing is that there is such a variety of categories on the grid that the disciplines of multi-class racing are soon learned, making the transition to prototype or an international series much more attainable. The British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy returned at Snetterton just two weeks later where the Team Tasman Porsche 991.2 Cup car driven by David Harrison and Nathan Luckey took a solid second place finish in the BEC behind Erceg and Cook. The Team Tasman duo have competed in a variety of championships over the years and have now got their sights firmly set on BEC podiums in 2024. As ever, JB Data Engineering was delighted to be part of the British Endurance Championship data scrutineering team and we are looking forward to another fantastic year working alongside Claire Hedley and her team. GT Cup Championship The 2024 GT Cup Championship got underway at Donington on April the 20th and 21st and JB Data Engineering was back working with Morpheus Racing and its pair of Mercedes-AMG GT4s. Competing within the GTH class, the Morpheus Racing #69 car was driven by Stephen Walton and Chris Hart while Jon Currie and Phil Keen piloted the sister #96 entry. GT Cup competition is always intense and Chris and Stephen raced to their first podium of the season with a third-place GTH finish in Race Two of the four-race weekend schedule. Morpheus Racing left Donington with Stephen and Chris sitting in 5th place in the GTH championship standings with Jon and Phil two places back in 7th. JB Data Engineering is looking forward to working with the team again when the GT Cup returns to Brands Hatch on May the 18th and 19th. We’ve had a busy start to the year and, with many international championships having completed their opening rounds and the start of the domestic season just around the around the corner, 2024 is well underway. The British GT Championship held its Media Day three weeks ago and JB Data Engineering was there providing support to teams up and down the paddock, more of which later. Our partners VBOX have some exciting developments for 2024 and we’re looking at their latest, the new Pit Lane Timer, in this news letter. With pit stop timing becoming ever more crucial to being competitive across a number of championships, VBOX’s latest evolution couldn’t have come at a better time. As ever, if you need data engineering support for pre-season testing, please contact us on +44 7717 562160 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk. The diary is filling up fast but we will do our best to make time to help where we can.to make time to help where we can. British GT Media Day The traditional opening to the British GT Championship season is its Media Day, this year held at Donington. The weather unfortunately wasn’t kind and heavy rain blighted the opening track sessions but the depth of the grid more than made up for a ‘little’ rain(!). SRO Motorsports Group, the series organiser, was very pleased to announce that, despite the economic challenges we’re all facing, the grid for the 2024 British Championship will be at capacity with 36 cars contesting the nine-round series. With visits to iconic circuits such as Oulton Park, the Silverstone 500 circuit and Donington and with the return of Spa-Francorchamps as the overseas round, the British GT Championship will offer some spectacular racing. The GT3 grid will see 19 entries, the most since 2014, with ten manufacturers and five former champions competing for the overall title. GT4 entries are also very healthy with nine manufacturers, 10 Pro-Am pairings and seven Silver line-ups. JB Data Engineering was at Donington for Media Day providing support to teams throughout the grid and we very much forward to returning when the racing action starts. With extensive experience in providing data and video support services to teams competing in the British GT Championship, JB Data Engineering is your perfect data partner for the 2024 season. Call us now on 07717 562160 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to discuss how we can help you. British Endurance Championship / ROWE Britcar Trophy The British Endurance Championship and ROWE Britcar Trophy get underway at Donington over the Easter weekend and JB Data Engineering is delighted to have been invited back to join the Data Scrutineering team. The grids at British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy meetings are full of some great machinery and we can’t wait to be in the middle of the action when the racing starts on Friday March 29th. For 2024, the series has introduced some major changes. Class E has now been re-configured for 2.0-litre touring cars and Class H has been launched for hybrid, BEV and hydrogen-powered cars. Britcar’s use of Balance of Performance and unique Britcar Endurance Performance Indicator (BEPI) ensures that the racing is always highly competitive. With the series visiting Donington, Snetterton, Silverstone and Oulton Park, a weekend at a British Endurance Championship meeting is one not to be missed. Our role as part of the Data Scrutineering team ensures that all competitors can be assured that the technical regulations are being followed. If you see us in the paddock over the course of the season, please do come and say hello. We’re very much looking forward to meeting up with friends old and new! New VBOX Pit Lane Timer As a proud supplier of VBOX Motorsport equipment, JB Data Engineering is delighted to announce the company’s launch of the new VBOX Lap Timer. With mandated pit stop lengths being an important part of many series, optimising your time in the pit lane is now crucial to ensuring your competitiveness. The new VBOX Pit Lane Timer provides instant feedback to help optimise the time spent in the pit lane and avoid unnecessary penalties.Once the pit lane entry point is crossed, the VBOX Pit Lane Timer will display the velocity until the car comes to a stop and then counts down to zero to indicate when it is time to leave the pit box. The VBOX Pit Lane Timer uses an array of six LEDS to prompt you when to speed up, slow down and leave the pit box. With VBOX moving to a 25Hz GNSS receiver, information such as speed, time and position is logged at 25 times per second and is stored on an SD card to examine post-race using the free Circuit Tools Software. If you would like to discuss how the new VBOX Pit Lane Timer can help you achieve your racing goals, contact JB Data Engineering on +44 (0) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk.
